This is the start of a very exciting period in the early years of children. In September 2008 the Government launched a new curriculum which caters for children from birth to 5 years old.
The core objectives is to build upon the childs excisting skills. This enables the staff to plan more effectively, ensuring we are 'scaffolding' the child's learning in exciting activites that interest them. This new curriculum does not allow any practitioner to assess the child in a formal way. Instead we continully observe children in a range of activites which enables us to understand their skills and how we can build upon these to progress them to the next stage.
The Curriculum is set into different developmental stages these are:
Birth to 11mths,
8 - 20mths,
16 - 26mths,
22-36mths,
30 - 50mths,
40 - 60+ mths,
The reason why the curriculum is set in overlapping age stages, is because, not all children learn the acquired skills by the set age set by developmental professionals. All children are individuals, and will learn new skills when they are ready, and when their interest are being met. This is why we look at each child as an individual and cater for their unique needs.
