All children learn more successfully when they are happy and confident, and we aim to build up their self-esteem so that they can interact as members of a social group, by learning to take turns, by caring for one another and by being aware of each other’s needs. As they become more confident and able, they will be encouraged to tackle more intricate tasks.
We must stress, however, that none of the children at the nursery are pushed to go faster than they can manage. Attaining a goal is meaningless if it does nothing for the child. At the nursery, we keep things in perspective. Thus for example, we consider the attaining of pre-skills in reading and writing as important as the ultimate target of being able to read and write.
Our two year olds are nurtured through the “Birth to Three matters” which focuses on the child holistically.
